We're Moving!

Posted by Heather

Ok I should say I am for now.

Here is the story. When I first moved into student housing here at UCI I put my name on a wait list for family housing (which means an apartment for just you and your domestic partnet/husband/and(or) kids). We became domestically partnered, and have been waiting ever since. As the time has been getting closer to Ektor finishing and his chances of working in San Diego getting higher, we started to think that maybe staying in Irvine wasnt for us. Problem is, off campus housing everywhere is expensive and when you are finishing a PhD, its hard to say the exact date you will be done. My lease expired the end of July and I had to be out, but what if Ektor wasnt here? How was I going to pay rent on an apartment by myself? All this became stressful, we had a few mild arguments about it, and poor Ektor was having so many stressful situations surrounding him when all he should be worrying about is finishing.
And then I got this email:

Hi Heather Swesey,

I have an apartment to offer to you:

  • Apartment: #914
  • Available: April 27, 2009
  • Floor plan: 2–bedroom/1-bath, 626 square foot apartment
  • Monthly rent: $918.00
  • Included: refrigerator, all utilities, Ethernet and cable television. The resident is responsible for contacting and arranging telephone service.

----------

$918 a month! Are you kidding?! We were looking at $1500 a month + utilities. So this offer just couldnt be beat. I sign the lease on Thursday, will get keys on April 27th, and must be out of my current apartment by May 1st!

I must admit though, I am feeling rather nostalgic about how fast time flies. Doesnt it seem like just yesterday I was blogging about getting an offer at my current place/meeting my new roomie/putting up pics of the new place?? That was 2 years ago! Now Ektor and I are going to have our OWN place...with a spare room/office! We are sooo excited!

So I dont have pics of the place just yet, but I did go and peak in the window of it last night. Its so cute! Its a little smaller than my apartment now, but for a couple that is fine. We are already going back and forth over furniture and decorations. And we will have a small patio which I plan on screening in so the cats can GO OUTSIDE and lounge in the southern california breeze.

Here's the floor plan. Pics of moving week and apartment will come shortly.
