Proposition 8 Protests

Posted by Heather

Coming from a straight, Christian/Buddhist, female I still do not see how gay marriage will "threaten" my future marriage or children

Marriage is a civil right according to the US Supreme Court in decades worth of its and state supreme courts' decisions. It is a civil right, one basic to one's humanity [according to the courts] even if one is a murderer, on death row or unable to consummate it physically, aged, infertile, an illegal alien, a non-citizen, widowed or divorced, atheist, black or white, or transgendered. It is a right given to any two consenting adults, that should have nothing to do with sexual preference. For all those who say marriage has always been between one man and one women, I say read history and even your bible. Marriage has always changed over time, and it always will! Our current concept of marriage is all of only 41 years old!! If gender-neutral marriage promotes our social values of fairness, equality, individual freedom from government intervension, and the pursuit of happiness, then it deserves the name "marriage". If not, then I guess some kids will have to be satisfied that their parents are only civil-unionized.

This picture was taken by my friend showing the protests going on in West Hollywood, CA...and they are only starting:
