Candle Cafe

Posted by Heather

Saturday night had dinner with Ektor and a couple of his friends from school/martial arts. We decided to try an organic vegan restaurant which are becoming increasingly popular all over the world. Now before you gag just keep this in mind, Ektor and his friends are not vegetarian and all were equally satisfied with their food as I was.

Here's what we had:
Ektor's - barbeque tempeh, wilted kale, grilled red onion and roasted red potato on toasted multigrain bread. Served with shallot-sage aioli and mesclun salad.

Mine - Pan seared seitan with fresh herbed mashed potatoes, sauteed broccoli and grilled oyster mushrooms

Appetizer - Hummus, quinoa tabouli, lemon date chutney, marinated olives and parata bread with zataar.

Dessert - Pumpkin cheesecake

The mission behind the place is this:
"We at the Candle Cafe are dedicated to your health through our commitment to excellent vegetarian cuisine. Our inspired creations are comprised of a seasonal array of organic ingredients. This means that the food is grown without the use of pesticides and other chemicals which have debilitating consequences for both our farmlands and our health. By supporting organic farming and avoiding animal products, we acknowledge the interconnectedness of environmental, spiritual and physical well-being. We are delighted to nourish your body with delicious meals served in a vibrant and friendly atmosphere. We invite you to enjoy the good foods that come fresh from the farm to your table."

"Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life on earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet." - Albert Einstein
