Why is it that foreigners contribute one of the best things about our country to TGI Fridays?? Of all the great food....
Saturday, dont know what I was thinking really when I decided it would be a good idea to go to Olive Garden in Times Square. But as I should have expected, the wait was over 2 hours long and the restaurant would give any clausterphobic a compete anxiety attack. So Ektor and I decided to venture off in search of better food. Now I dont know why, but I am being told now that TGI Fridays is, to a non-US citizen, one of the best things about the the wonderful US of A. So through my suggestions of sushi, turkish food, brazilian food, Ektor was dead set on getting his hands on one of the greatest all time contributions to cuisine...the hamburger (mooo! - thats for you Dad!). Now at this point I was so hungry my arm was starting to look like a considerable option, so the idea of a juicy veggi burger with fattening french fries started to sound more and more appealing as we continued to endure the walk in the cold through one of the biggest mobs of Times Square tourists I have ever seen. After arriving at "Fridays", we were happy to put "Hector's" name in and sit down at the bar for a 15 minute wait. Now this is where my story gets good and in order to make this easier for the reader, Ive decided to list in numerical format the absolutely hysterical things that continue to take place in this life of mine. Yep, only in my life because for some reason I am a walking magnet for these kinds of things. Anyway..
1. Sat at the bar. After making a comment that our chairs felt like they were going to fall apart at any second and wondering how we were going to be told of our "15 minute wait" we ordered an ice tea and a diet coke. Since when does two soft drinks cose 9 dollars! 9 freakin' dollars! You have got to be crazy! That is the price of 2 beers in almost every other state in the country. And this is TGI Fridays! WTF??
2. Finally were seated, conveniently at one of the smallest tables in the restaurant (also had the same wobbling problem as the bar chairs) and right across from the popular women's bathroom. Ok, well we are hungry so maybe this could do...
3. The kid across from us starts screaming. The parents of the child start fighting and actually fight over the placement of this child (a 4 year old with a pacifier..hmmm...) and proceed to play a tug of war with his high chair, of course with him in it. The makes the kid scream louder. What, can somebody else say this kid is screwed for life???
4. We wait, and wait, and wait for someone to take our order! Wait and wait and wait...
5. Somebody gets "sick?" I guess and decides to take one of the smelliest you know whats in history in the bathroom. Now remember, we are sitting right by it. Of course, the entire restaurant becomes aware of the smell of rotting flesh so the manager of the restaurant walks around spraying a can of air freshener...weird and disturbing thing to see in a restaurant you are about to consumer food in but we were REALLY hungry at this point.
6. Finally place our order. "What, you are out of fries??" How in the world can TGI Friday's run out of fries? Interesting...so we order the "red fried things" (actually described in this detail by our waiter) as a compliment instead.
7. Wait and wait and wait....
8. Finally our appetizer comes. Its cold. The guy who delivers it to our table is still wearing his food preparation gloves. Ok, this is getting kinda gross.
9. Ask for some plates maybe, oh and some forks and knives would be nice..."WHAT?? YOU ARE OUT OF FORKS?"
10. FINALLY get two plates but our waiter must go "steal some forks" (once again, actually spoken by our waiter)
11. Finally get our forks! but then I drop mine accidently on the floor...(wow, I am really skilled at things like this) oops :)
12. A man walks in from outside carrying bags of grocery store bought fries. Our burgers come out with fries and not "fried red things"...hmmm....
13. Another kid behind us, this one around the age of 16 and male, whips out his barbies and starts playing with them during his dinner...interesting. I learn how to say "fat boy playing with barbies behind us" in Greek. - this will be very useful someday.
14. Get our food, eat enough of it so that we dont die, and decide maybe we should just go. I mean, the place is disgusting, there is crap everywhere, and the radio is so loud is sounds like a club. Get the bill. 60 dollars for 2 hamburgers (one veggi of course) and an appetizer at Fridays?? wow, America has really accomplished something great with the production of this high quality restaurant.
Wish I had pictures but I was laughing to hard to take them. Sorry.
